New products!Blu-ray is now the standard for high definition video. Our favorite players are the collection from Denon (right now, the Blu-ray player in our main theater room is from Anthem). To get the most from the Blu-ray experience, you'll want to hear sound from the latest versions of sound tracks. These new CODECs (COder-DECoder) are Dolby's True HD and DTS-HD's Master Audio. The decoding can be done in the Blu-ray player or in the receiver. We are now showing a demo with the same movie in "regular" 7.1 and in the new HD sound format. The difference is startling. Our Blu-ray player is connected to a new Sim2 Grand Cinema MICO projector. The MICO 50 is powered by LEDs rather than incandescent or halogen lamps and the LEDs have an expected life of 30,000 hours! In addition, because the LEDs are cooler, fan cooling is much quieter. Come take a look at this projector. HDMI cables have the capability of transferring both video and audio digitally over the same cable. Keeping the signal in the "digital domain" until the last moment preserves the quality of the signal at its highest level. The current standard is HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 is on the way. A disadvantage of HDMI signals, however, is that they cannot be sent more than 15 meters (about 50 feet) without adding some extra electronic processing. We supply UltraLink, XLO, and Ethereal cables in various lengths, and we can recommend solutions if you need to send a signal farther. We now recommend remote controls from RTI Corporation and from Nevo. Most models offer a customizable LCD screen with icons for your viewing and listening activities. These remotes can send control signals both by infrared (IR) and radio frequency (RF). If your equipment is hidden in a cabinet or closet, this capability may be just the ticket for your family. Visit our Manufacturers page for links to the individual websites.
Items of particular interestWe continue to believe that power management is an important feature of any home theater or stereo system. We are proud to offer power systems from Richard Gray's Power Company and from Brick Wall. We recommend the installation of a separate 20A circuit for your electronics and video, supplemented with one of the fine products from Richard Gray or Brick Wall. |
